New England Clam Chowder at Pond Mountain Inn

Pond Mountain Inn

New England Clam ChowderKay has been making New England Clam Chowder since we lived in the Philippines – certainly an unlikely place for chowder, but it’s one of my favorite things in the world. We just moved to Vermont full time last week and what better way to commemorate the move than with a fresh batch of chowder – two dozen cherrystones, normally three though. I’m a chowder fanatic, or in polite society, a connoisseur – Kay’s chowder is absolutely the best, with one slight exception. This lovely couple visiting Pond Mountain Inn last year came prepared to make a batch of their own! His recipe was from a Massachusetts restaurant that I have since forgotten, but his chowder had a sophisticated elegance that was unforgettable. Someday I hope to get that recipe! A Exciting Day Trip to Saratoga Race Track

Pond Mountain Inn

Saratoga_Blog_1If you ask someone who’s spent a lifetime in the northeast they’ll tell you one of the top ten places to visit in the summertime is Saratoga Springs, or simply – Saratoga. Best known for the “mineral springs” and Baths, the water offered remedies for both internal and external illnesses as far back as the late 1700s – however, this was only of tertiary interest. We were there for the races! After a late start last Saturday – Jim and Karen picked us up from Pond Mountain Inn and we arrived shortly before noon, well ahead of the first race. Great seats out of the sun offered some great racing perspective. Properly known as Saratoga Race Course, “the track” is stunningly beautiful, a through-back to an earlier time was comfortably filled with polite and gracious people all out for a nice day at the races.

Not terribly late in…

After finishing up this lovely little sunflower to celebrate how gorgeous it’s turning outside…20150316_01

I read this article with my morning tea. Even though I’m not a parent and I found myself reading it from a personal perspective, it still hit home.

At first it was embarrassing. Being fussed over, tugged, pulled, trimmed, painted, draped, all of it made me intensely uncomfortable. Those things were supposed to be superficial and…
